Wilton: Wilton 1sts visited Newcastle University on Saturday attempting to retain their excellent record against the students of unbeaten in six league matchings.

The game seemed evenly balanced in the first period, until Newcastle finished from a penalty corner, keeper Mark Morris unlucky as the ball the clipped the top of his leg guard and ended in the net, Wilton lifted their game and forward John Tombling equalised just before the break, taking the ball wide then cracking a brilliant undercut into the top of the net.

Wilton knew the game was for the taking and lifted their game in the second half, newcomer Mark Whitworth capitalised after a good period of Wilton pressure, Danny Morgan, then bashfully celebrated after a wickedly deflected penalty corner ended up in the goal. Mom centre-back Andy Kennedy ensured the students had no luck at the other end for a good 3-1 win.

Sunday's league game saw Wilton 1st entertained at Durham Uni 4th's water based pitch and the hardest fought point of the Teessiders season so far. The game was battled out in midfield, the students unable to break through Wilton's solid defence marshalled by mom Matty Hunter with 16 year old debutant keeper Shaun Wallace coping well under pressure pulling off a memorable save, when he flicked the ball over the bar from a superb Durham penalty corner. With Durhams keeper performing similar heroics at the other end denying Wilton from a string of penalty corners.

The game looked as though it was heading for deadlock until the students won a penalty corner in the last five minutes which took an awkward deflection and rolled in. However Wilton's determination won a further penalty corner two minutes later and Dom Binks levelled the game with his second of the season.

Wilton 2nd played host to Newcastle Uni 4th in division 2, both teams riding high at the top of the table, early on it looked as though the students were still suffering from the night before but an early Wilton goal from Johnny Couhig appeared to blow off their cobwebs! It was still Wilton though who dominated the first period with mom Peter Morris creating havoc down the right hand side and an excellent chance went begging when the Uni keeper was first to react after Mark Nevison hit the post from a penalty corner. Shortly before the break Newcastle hit back against the run of play leaving a sour taste in the Wilton mouth's at half time.

After the break Wilton again game out strong but failed to capitalise from a string of chances early on, they began to irritated and midfielder Bob Leason was cautioned for lashing out at an opponent in frustration when he was pole-axed and no foul awarded This frustration began to work it's way through the side and Newcastle capitalised in the closing minutes after their vivacious centre forward popped up unmarked to convert easily from close range to seal the victory.

Wilton 3rds took on in-form Jesmond PC in an enthralling game. Both teams played well in a goalless first half.

Half time changes cost Wilton again this week as Jesmond scored a first from a defensive error. Man of the match Andy Gray tried hard in midfield but, despite numerous penalty corners, Wilton could not find the net. Eventually, Jesmond's midfield took charge and they ended up comfortable 4-0 winners, even though Wilton's youngsters fought to the end.
