FAMILY-RUN North Yorkshire carpet retailer, Calverts Carpets, has had a 900sq m carpet specially made for a mosque in Bradford.

The carpet was made in just four weeks as it had to be laid in time for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which began on Monday of last week.

James Calvert, who oversees the running of Calverts Carpets' Driffield, Scarborough, Malton and Nawton stores said: "The carpet we've had made for the mosque is particularly interesting as the prayer mats are woven into the body of the floor covering.

"Most people recognise Calverts Carpets as offering affordable quality floor coverings, but we can also find a source of specialist carpeting such as this."

Calverts Carpets operates nine stores across the region including stores in Thirsk, Northallerton, Richmond, Guisborough, York and Middlesbrough.

It has been trading for 26 years, obtaining its carpets from countries across the world, including Belgium and India, and employs 95 people.
