A new experience for those golfers who are limited to weekend golf when nights draw in was introduced at Bedale recently.

It was played on a dry autumn night with fairways identified by illuminated markers, holes illuminated, fluorescent hats for players, torches and to complete the experience special illuminated golf balls.

The competition with a shotgun start was played over nine holes by teams of four players and all competitors found it a challenging and interesting experience. Leading nett scores 30.2 Terry Jobling, Michael Greenwood, Geoff Brownlee, Geoff Johnson; 31.4 Ian Smith, Kevin Ward, Ian Ratcliffe, Andrew Gatenby; 31.8 Steven Whitwham, David Munton, Tim Morris, Mark Smith.

After the game those who had started with some trepidation agreed that the evening had been a great success and were anxious to know when the next night of gold would take place. The evening was rounded off with a meal in the clubhouse. A definite first for the entertainment's committee.
