A SERVICE to help male victims of domestic violence has received a £5,000 National Lottery grant.

The Cockerton and Branksome Living Enterprise (Cable) service in Darlington has received the money from the Awards for All scheme.

David Regan, who also set up the town's Father's Network to help men with parenting issues, said he realised there was very little help available for male victims of domestic violence.

He holds drop-in sessions every Monday, from 10am to noon, and Friday, from noon to 2pm at First Stop, in Tubwell Row, for male perpetrators or victims, or for females who need help.

The helpline number, which is a 24-hour answering machine service, is (01325) 248986.

Other Darlington groups to receive awards were: Middleton St George and District Garden and Allotment Association, Darlington Junior Netball Club, Cockerton Green Scout Group, Elm Ridge Scout Group, Carmel RC Technology College, Darlington and Durham County Racial Equality Council, and the Tees Valley Volleyball Association.
