KEY members of North Yorkshire County Council have paid a fact-finding visit to Catterick Garrison.

They wanted to learn about developments planned at the Army base and how these would impact on the services provided by the county council.

Developments in education, social services and the environment all came under the microscope during the discussion between members of the Council's executive and Colonel Jonny Hackett, the commander of Catterick Garrison.

He showed them plans for future military and cultural developments.

Councillor John Weighell, the leader of North Yorkshire County Council, said: "It was very useful for members with responsibility for social services, education and highways to see at first hand what is being planned for the garrison.

"We need to be mindful of what local people have said they want to see at the garrison and make sure that we are aware of the impact these will have on the services the county council provides in the area."
