ACTOR Jeff Hordley showed the kind side of his character yesterday when he switched on the Christmas lights in Durham City centre.
Hordley, who plays heart-throb bad boy Caine Dingle in ITV soap Emmerdale, launched the festive season in the heart of the city, along with Century Radio's Paul "Goffy" Gough.
Santa Claus also arrived to take up temporary residence in the grotto at the Prince Bishops shopping centre.
