A DRUNK sexually assaulted a babysitter after she refused to kiss him, a court was told yesterday.

Edward Brown, 36, drank 20 pints during a day at the races last June, before he arrived at the house where the teenager was looking after four children.

He repeatedly asked the 16-year-old for a kiss as she sat on the sofa and he even got down on his knees, said Martina Connolly, prosecuting at Teesside Crown Court.

When he was rebuffed, he carried out the assault.

The teenager later told her mother and Brown was arrested.

He said later that he had no recollection of what happened after his day at Newcastle races.

The assault led to Brown's fiancee calling off their wedding, which had been planned for two months later, and he left the area to work in Wales, said Peter Makepeace, defending.

Brown, formerly of Coronation Road, Loftus, east Cleveland, was jailed for six months after he pleaded guilty to indecent assault.
