PUPILS from a primary school, which was severely damaged by fire last month, are taking part in a worldwide Art Day today.

Every one of Grangetown Primary School's 250 pupils will be looking at different styles of art and culture, with each of the 12 classes adopting a different country.

It will be the first all-school activity since a fire last month, which severely damaged classrooms and a parent and toddler room.

Headteacher Carl Faulkner said: "The staff have worked incredibly hard, including weekends, to get the school back to being a happy place.

"The children have coped brilliantly, too, having to get used to being taught in different classrooms, even storage areas.

"This is our chance to give the children a special and exciting day."

He said the school wanted to give every child a special experience at school and challenge them in an interesting way.

Teacher Hanna Hutchinson, who has spent some time teaching in Africa, will be sharing her experiences, helping children create African masks and designs.

Another class will be cooking Chinese spring rolls, recreating Chinese art and creating plate designs.

The kitchen staff are joining in the experience, too, helping provide different foods for the range of chosen countries.
