Darlington are still on the look out for two more loan signings after failing in their bid to land striker Jamie Cade.

Quakers boss David Hodgson missed out on Cade when the young Middlesbrough star opted for a move to Second Division Colchester United on an 18-month contract. Cade had been on loan at Chesterfield.

And, refusing to be downbeat, Hodgson has now set his sights on other transfer targets.

But it is unlikely that there will be any new faces in place at the Reynolds Arena for tomorrow's visit of promotion hopefuls Scunthorpe United.

Hodgson, though, is determined to boost his numbers and add to the loan captures of goalkeeper Ross Turnbull, from Boro, and wing-back Craig James, from Sunderland.

"Officially we still have two players with us on loan," said the Darlington boss. "Ross is obviously away in Dubai with England Under-20s but he is officially with us for a month.

"That means we have got two other places in our squad for loans and I would love nothing more than to be able to bring players in."

Hodgson, whose side sit second bottom of Division Three, has former England international Carlton Palmer training with the rest of the squad.

But 37-year-old Palmer will not play against The Iron, although Hodgson did not rule him out of a permanent move to the club.

"It's a difficult situation for us," said Hodgson. "We need to bring players in."
