COXHOE Boys Club are urging football fans from across the region come and watch their top of the table clash with Whitburn FC tonight.

For just £1 anyone wishing to go along and support either side at Spennymoor United's Brewery Field ground will gain entry into an entertaining evening.

Coxhoe Under-15s manager Bobby Orton said: "There will be a raffle and we will be giving away a Niall Quinn signed Sunderland shirt.

"We have these nights at Spennymoor because their manager Tony Lee has always been very good to us and he has donated the Quinn shirt.

"Anybody who goes along will have a good night. The bar will be open and the match is sure to be good."

The Russell Foster Youth League fixture will kick-off at 7.15pm and Coxhoe are hoping to maintain their impressive start to the campaign.

Last weekend the league leaders had to overcome a resolute and determined South Tyneside Juniors side and they duly obliged with a 2-0 victory.

Super striker Michael Owens put Coxhoe in front in the first half after he was put through after some good work by John Dodd and Paul Harnett.

But it could have been different had South Tyneside not been denied seconds before Owens' strike when goalkeeper Tom Orton made an "exceptional" save, explained the manager.

But after the restart Coxhoe extended their lead at the top of the table when Shane Gavin capitalised on some slack defending to fire into the net.

Orton said: "I thought it was a very hard game, in fact it was the hardest for us this season. Tyneside were fair but aggressive and that was good to see.

"It was a tremendous performance and a great team effort which earned us the points.

"Now it sets us up for a clash with third-placed Whitburn and we will be keen to keep our run going. We expect it to be a tough match."
