Division One, Bedale FC 2, Grangetown BC 1: Bedale, who beat the League leaders last week, pulled off another shock when they dented Grangetown Boys Club's hopes of retaining the championship.

Andrew Whitling with his first for the club gave Bedale an 11th minute lead. The Boys Club fought back and Ian McGowan made it all square from the penalty spot, to send the teams in even at 1-1 at the time break. In the second half the match was very even but five minutes into the second half Paul Orton struck to give Bedale a 2-1 lead which they hung onto despite constant pressure from the Boys Club who slipped not only to a surprise defeat, but it was also their first League defeat of the season.

Fishburn Park 3, Thornaby FC 5

Thornaby raced into a 2-0 lead when Danny Jones and Michael Arif scored inside the first 15 minutes. But in the 20th minute Jimmy Simpson pulled it back to 2-1. This goal seemed all in vain as Neil Preston struck in the 33rd minute to make it 3-1, but the Whitby side bounced back and Duncan Marson made it 3-2 before Lee Found made it 3-3 at half time. In the second half the match was very evenly balanced but Preston struck his second of the match and then Arif netted to give them a 5-3 victory.

Mackinlay Park 2, Carlin How 3

after only 11 minutes it looked as though Carlin How were on the way to a comfortable win when Glen Smith scored. But the Redcar side bounced back and led 2-1 at half time when Khalide Mazfari and Kristian Mahoney reversed the deficit. In the second half the game was very even until Carlin How drew level when Kevin Hampton scored to make it 2-2, two minutes later Smith gave Carlin How a 3-2 lead. Mackinlay then had two men sent-off as frustration got the better of the home side, giving Carlin How a two men advantage with little chance of the home side being able to draw level.

New Marske SC 0, BEADS FC 4

BEADS took a 30th minute lead through Paul Chamberlin, despite pressure from the home side this remained the only goal of the first half, five minutes into the second half lady luck was against the home side as they conceded an Own Goal and Ian Swinnerton then struck on the hour to make it 3-0 before Chamberlin with his 2nd of the match and 7th of the match secured the points that keep BEADS in contention of a very tight first division table.

Richmond Town 2, Nunthorpe Ath 1

Richmond took the lead in the 17th minute when player/manger Richard Dowson scored at the near post following an Adam Emson corner. In the second half the match was very tight but in the 58th minute Danny Mohan upended Emson in the box and Richard Thompson scored from the resulting penalty. Nunthorpe pulled it back to 2-1 when Simon Henderson scored from close range following a corner in the 87th minute, but Richmond played out the remaining time out without any further concerns.

SMG Redstripes 2, Hartlepool FC 2

SMG Redstripes languishing close to the bottom of the league and a possibility of relegation back to the second division, were entertaining the team that came up with them last season for the first time this season, Hartlepool took a 2-0 lead through Dave Clarke and Neil Gutteridge that looked as if they would help their cause to close back up with the top four teams, but SMG realising they needed a good result fought back and drew level to 2-2 with goals from Paul Brown and Paul Swan to make it honours even in their first meeting of the season.

Thornaby YC 6, Wolviston Res 2

Darren Fixter gave the Youth Club a 6th minute lead when he beat two players on the right and shot into the bottom corner of the net, the visitors pulled level in the 15th minute when James Wilson score following a shot from Craig Leslie was dropped by the Youth Club keeper, but five minutes before half time a ball from Darren Humphries was headed home by Chris Burton to give the Youth Club a 2-1 half time lead.

Five minutes into the second half Fixter with his second of the match made it 3-1, but Craig Leslie then pounced to pull it back to 3-2 but substitute Mac Allen struck in the 65th and 70th minute to give the Youth Club a 5-2 lead before Fixter scored his hat trick goal and 11th of the season in the 88th minute to secure the points that keep them in close contention of the two team at the top of the table.

Division Two

Dormans FC 0, North Ormesby 4

Craig Bell gave North Ormesby a 2-0 lead and despite a concerted push by Dormans North Ormesby took advantage of scoring on the brake with Andrew Lambert rounding a man of the match display with two goals in the second half, this win and defeats for both Whinney Banks and Guisborough Town Reserves resulted in North Ormesby moving of the bottom and leapfrogging both Whinney Banks and the Guisborough team.

Guisb Town Res 0, Bill.Wndrs 1

The home side dominated the match and created a number of good chances but failed to take any, visitors Billingham Wanderers defended well and took the lead thirty minutes into the match when John Cairns broke clear with the Guisborough defence appealing for offside, but Cairns kept his cool to slot home. In the second half the home side were well on top and pushed forward but the visitors defended stoutly and recoded the double over Guisborough to move into third place.

Whinney Banks 1, Teesside Ath 2

Visitors Teesside Athletic took a 24th minute lead in a tight first half and it came as no surprise when Whinney banks drew level through David Gove in the 41st minute. In the second half the match was very tight but Athletic scored what turned out to be the winner in the 49th minute with Forsyth's second of the match and 9th of the season to help his side complete the double over Whinney Banks.

Darlington Charity Cup

Darlington CB 9, Barnard Castle 1

Darlington Cleveland Bridge progressed to the second round of the Darlington Charity Cup after an emphatic victory over visitors Barnard Castle, the Bridge raced into a 7-0 half time lead with Wayne King scoring four goals, Stuart Hardy on target twice and Michael Dutton once. In the second half the Bridge never let up and Hardy completed his hat trick before Barnard Castle pulled it back to 8-1, the Bridge were also guilty of missing two penalties, but Nigel Clarke made the final score 9-1.

H'pool Chester H 7, D'ton SRM 0

Darlington SRM crashed out of the Darlington Charity Cup loosing against Hartlepool Chester Hotel who scored seven goals without reply.

Tindale Crescent 8, Darlington Alb. 4

Darlington Albion also crashed out of the Darlington Charity Cup, without a recognised keeper they were 4-0 down at half time, in the second half they made a better fight of the game and scored four times with two goals from Gary Mitchell, one each from Adrian Weston and Scott Brassell, unfortunately the home side scored four more times and will go through to the second round.

Richmond Mvrks 4, Ferryhill Greyhound FC 2

Richmond Town progressed to the second round of the Darlington Charity Cup after a hard fought win over Ferryhill Greyhounds, Richmond took a 2-0 lead through Wayne Gredziak with goals in the 12th and 17th minute, they took this 2-0 lead into the half time break, but just after the restart the Greyhounds pulled it back to 2-1 when Gavin Hall scored from the penalty spot, on the hour Phil Stirling gave the Mavericks a 3-2 lead, but a well worked move by the Greyhounds resulted in John Makepiece pulling it back to 3-2 but with eight minutes remaining Gredziak pounced to secure his hat trick and record a 4-2 victory.
