A FORMER mayor of Stockton presented cheques to her chosen charities this week.

The money was raised throughout Councillor Jean O'Donnell's year as mayor last year, through events such as a dinner, cricket match, football match and coffee morning.

Frank Dunne, representing SSAFA Forces Help, collected a cheque for £4,500, Craig Barnes, of the Cornelia de Lange Syndrome group, which had earlier been given a £1,100 cheque, received £3,500.

Dave Owen and Ray Walker, of the Cleveland Ambulance Resuscitation Equipment group, received a cheque for £1,630.

Coun O'Donnell said: "Raising money for charity is a big part of the mayor's year in office and I am very proud to have raised this cash for these charities."
