WHEN ten-year-old George Robinson decided he needed more space to play, he was not only thinking of himself.

Creating more space at home meant some of his old toys would have to go and, rather than throwing them out, the East Cowton Primary pupil arranged a table-top sale at school, and even persuaded friends to follow his example.

Between them, they raised £60 for Hambleton and Richmondshire Nightstop, which offers emergency accommodation to young homeless people.

"We are extremely proud of the way the children used their initiative to raise money to help other people," said headteacher Clare Chapman. "East Cowton school is a very caring community."

Nightstop project director Carol Robinson said: "Nightstop is about making sure young people are safe, giving them somewhere to stay for one night at a time, and a chance to sort out their long-term accommodation needs without being at risk."

Anyone who would like to follow George's example or offer any other help, can contact Nightstop on 0870 2406921.
