ROYAL carpet maker Hugh Mackay wasn't floored by its latest order - to make a carpet for a German brothel.
The company, based in Meadowfield, on the outskirts of Durham City, will be following a design which features a naked woman at its centre surrounded by a border of penises.
A spokesman for the company said: "Carpet is carpet is carpet. It's the design that appears on it that makes it different."
The spokesman was quick to point out that brothels are legal in Germany and said Hugh Mackay was proud to manufacture carpet for whoever wants it.
"We will provide our product for whoever wants it. If they stipulate a certain design then we will try our best to do it."
The company, celebrating its 100th year in business, is also working on a new design for the Chicago Hilton Hotel and a range of cruise ships.
It has supplied carpet for the Houses of Parliament, the Tower of London and a bedroom carpet for the Queen.
