AFTER two months of unbridled sporting success, a Darlington school has picked up trophies, titles and even a sponsorship deal.

Since returning from the summer break, pupils at Carmel RC Technology College have dominated the school sports in the area, winning local and regional competitions in rugby, football, running and hockey.

The year seven rugby team won the County Schools' 12-a-side tournament, winning each of their matches without conceding a single point.

The under-14 girls' hockey team won the Darlington schools' hockey championships, reaching the final of the regional cup.

Following their successes, both teams are now enjoying new strips sponsored by building firm Miller Construction, which is currently working on new buildings at the school.

Head of PE at the school, Eve Hannaford, said: "The new strips will really make a difference to the children and this is sure to be a very fruitful partnership."

Pupils also won seven of the nine trophies on offer in the Darlington schools' cross-country championships and the year seven and year nine teams saw off the competition to become the town football tournament champions.

Ten pupils have been selected to play for the town's team this season and pupil Adam Gilroy, who plays for the county under-18 team, has recently completed trials for the England Schoolboys' team.
