Darlington Under-14s were well beaten by Carlisle to reverse the result of the match played at Blackwell Meadows early in the season.

Whilst Darlington travelled with some good players missing it was still a strong squad of 22 that arrived at the Cumbrian's ground.

In the first few minutes Darlington pressed the home side back but a break from centre field highlighted some poor tackling from Darlington and the home side ran in under the posts. It was ten minutes later before Darlington could get any points on the board when David MacFall put in on of his strongest runs to force his way home. And he repeated his efforts just before half time. Carlisle could only add a single penalty to their converted try in the first half making the score 10-10.

Four tries to one in the second half for Carlisle certainly reflected the balance of play. Whilst the first half hadn't produced Darlington's best rugby some key players had done much of the hard work and this showed in the second period. David MacFall got himself relentlessly up and down the park both in attack (with three tries) and defence whilst Greg Davies tackled his heart out to keep the try count down. Pick of the Darlington players was Mat Lister who found himself doing every job there was and time and again he put in try saving tackles at full back.

Unfortunately Carlisle were allowed to take advantage of disorganisation behind the scrum half. Whilst the ball was secured in the scrum effectively by Darlington the Carlisle backs pushed the offside line to the limit and the fly-half ended up engulfed on many occasions whilst he decided upon the right option.

Final score was Carlisle 30, Darlington 15.
