POLICE have drawn up a list of bullies who targeted murder victim Robbie Hartley and are advising them to contact police before they knock on their doors.

The 73-year-old convicted paedophile was subjected to a number of threats and confrontations in the months before his death as some people saw him as an easy target to extort money and valuables.

He died in the early hours of Saturday, November 29 after being attacked in his terrace home in Queen Street, Redcar.

Det Sup Brian Dunn, the man leading the enquiry, said the police had identified several people believed to have targeted Mr Hartley in the past.

"We now have a list of names and we have started to interview some," he said. "The rest of these people will be visited over the coming days.

"None of them have made any attempt to contact us and it would be in their interests to do so before we knock at their door."

He said his priority in this case was to track down those responsible for Mr Hartley's death and to discover information in relation to his death.

"Offences which have occurred in the past will be judged on their merits," he said. "Mr Hartley was a very vulnerable member of society and my main concern is finding his killers."

Anyone who can help the police in the murder hunt is asked to ring (01642) 302626 or Crimestoppers on (0800) 555111.
