Newfit Services Willington: Willington Cottles were taken to the deciding team game by the visiting Sunnybrow Brown Trout A but they managed to win to go 11 points clear.

Cottles had singles wins from Kenny Louth, John Barron and Michael Richardson with Jason Bone and Michael Richardson adding a doubles point. The Trout went into the lead with singles points from Jason Martin, Alan Bolam and Trevor Allchurch, whilst Nigel Barket with Paul Allchurch and Michael Pickles with Trevor Allchurch added doubles points, but then failed in the decider.

Willington Lion and Unicorn moved two points behind Sunnybrow Brown Trout A following their five points victory at Willington Burn. Byers Green Royal Oak became the first team to win by a maximum when they whitewashed their hosts at Sunnybrow Brown Trout B to move up to fourth place, four points adrift of the Lion and Unicorn but with a match in hand.

Tow Law Coors

Hamsteels Inn put up one of their best performance of the season but were just beaten by the odd point by the visiting Billy Row Club, who held on to their third place in the table. The trebles were shared but then Hamsteels went two up in the singles with wins from Alan Hird and Robert Hird. The Club took the remaining singles through Dave McAndrew, John McCorquodale, Carl Wilcockson and George Blakey. The home side responded by taking two of the doubles but Billy Row clinched victory when John McCorquodale and Carl Wilcockson beat Robert Hird and Mike Roberts in the other doubles.

Cornsay Royal Oak pulled off a very good win at Tow Law New Market B, where they only dropped three points and managed to run in some of the best individual scores of the week when C. Close and J. Close both hit maximums, S. Witherspoon made the best start of the week with 160 and C. Close made the best check out of the week with 114. S. Wilkie hit 180 for Newhouse Club, A Suddes 140 for Dan's Castle and C.

Wilcockson 140 for Billy Row Club.

Tow Law New Market A and Newhouse Club share the top spot in the table, although the Market have two matches in hand. Billy Row Club are third, sixteen points behind the joint leaders.

National CIU Singles Championship

Players from two clubs are dominating this year's final stages of the Club and Institute National Singles Championships. Competing in the semi-finals to be held at Arnold WMC, Nottingham tomorrow (2pm start) are Roy Brown and Phill Nixon of Ferryhill WMC and Mark Thomson and Bob Phillips both from Rodbourne Cheney WMC, Wiltshire. The final will be later the same day at the same venue.

Crook League

Belle Vue WMC returned to winning form and increased their lead at the top to ten points. Fleece A slipped to third when they lost at home to Surtees A who move up to second. Joiners, Coach and Horses and Earl Derby continue to lead the way in the second division after all three won.

Durham County

Durham continued their quest for promotion with a tremendous 26-13 win over visiting Leicestershire. The Mens B Team drew 6-6 with the man of the match award to Gerry Grieve. The Ladies B Team triumphed over the visiting Ladies B Team with a 5-1 win with Dawn Winn taking the Lady of the match award. The Mens A Team won 9-3 with an outstanding performance from Doug McCarthy receiving the man of the match award with a 30.06 average. The Ladies had a bad start to the day but pulled back in the final three games to clinch a draw. The Lady of the Match Award to Linda Ithurralde. Durham now lead Division Three with the Mens A Team retaining their top division place.

Durham travel to Devon in January hoping for the continued success being achieved at present.
