Billingham swimmers were jubilant last weekend when they competed in the South Yorkshire Open Masters held at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.

From 31 swims 16 medals were gained with all competitors achieving personal bests.

Lorraine Riddle swam brilliantly in the 19/24 age category achieving a silver in the 100m back and bronze in the 100m breast, also 5th in the 200m free, 100m free and I.M.

In the 30/34 age group Alister Wrigley was tremendous collecting gold in the 400m and 200m free, silver in the 100m back and bronze in the 100m IM.

Five swimmers were competing in the 40/44 section. Shirley Fawkes with fabulous swims finished in gold position in the 400m and 200m free and bronze in the 100m breast and free. Gillian Sheehan swam extremely well to collect bronze in the 50m free, her other race being 100m free which she finished 5th.

The men all had excellent swims with Guy Fawkes collecting gold in the 400m free, just missing out in 4th place in the 200m, 5th in the 50m fly and 7th in the 100m free. Mark Wilson just missing out on a medal in the 400m free, came 6th in the 200m free and 100m breast and 10th in the 100m free. Gary Snowball was 5th in the 400m and 200m free, 7th in the 50m free and 9th in the 100m free. Sue Wilson was superb in the 45/49 category finishing in gold position in the 400m free, silver in the 100m back and free and bronze in the 50m back.
