Blackhall CC 5 Burn Valley Club 5: Burn Valley took an early lead in an entertaining game at Welfare Park with a good finish from Neil Hay, but then things started to go wrong for them.

Poor all round performances saw them concede four goals before the break. Harsh words exchanged at half-time brought them back into the game as Hay pulled one back. More bad defending meant they conceded another but they gathered themselves up for a fighting last 20 minutes. Sixteen-year-old Mark Rutherford started the turn round then good work by another youngster, Ian Davies, set up Andrew Watts to chip the keeper. Veteran Brendan Hampshire grabbed the equaliser.

Ath. Rugby 3 Belle Vue Old Boys 0

Athletic started at a frantic pace and deservedly took the lead when Andy Blackett found Neil Guttridge who took on the Belle Vue defence before unselfishly pulling the ball back for Alan Hoey to fire home. A Phil Nicholson corner found the in-form Guttridge who headed into the top corner. They finished the job off when Neil Murray headed home Mark Taylor's corner.

Rovers 4 Blackhall Hardwick 2

Martyn Brown put Blackhall ahead after a quarter of an hour, tucking away the rebound after Andrew Harrison's strike came back off the woodwork. Lee Keers soon equalised from Lee Campbell's cross, but Gary Eason was still the busier of the two keepers. David Mole put the visitors back in front from the spot but Keers volleyed home the equaliser after Stephen Ashton's powerful drive hit the woodwork. Rovers stepped up the pressure and Michael Ford battled his way forward to set up Andy McKenna converted a spot-kick to seal the game.

Shakespeare 1 Welfare 4

Welfare fielded their strongest side for the first time this season and it showed in their play. They dominated the first half which only remained goal-less due to two fine saves from Paul Vasey to deny Lee Stoddard. They did take a deserved lead when the lively Stoddard was brought down in the box and Brendan Deer converted from the spot. Shakespeare soon equalised but it was Stoddard again who powered his way through the Shakespeare defence to score a great individual effort. Stoddard created another for Deer to fire home into the corner and the latter went on to complete his hat-trick to round off a good team performance.

Sports Bar 3 Supporters 2

A threadbare Sports Bar XI still managed to take the points with a well-deserved victory. Mick Ross took advantage of a defensive misunderstanding to open the scoring, then midway through the half doubled the lead after a superb solo run. For the second week running, Phil Graham added a header. Supporters did pull two goals back but the second was too little too late.

Odessa 2 Nursery 4

The visitors took the lead through Mark Peterson and then James Parkinson raced clear for the second. Odessa's Stuart Winwood pulled one back before Parkinson restored the visitors' two-goal advantage but Jonathon Crone pulled another back from the spot. Parkinson completed his hat-trick to give Nursery the points.

Office 3 Greatham Bull & Dog 0

Office could only muster nine men at the start, but that didn't stop them from taking the lead when Neil Swift exchanged passes with John Hind before slotting home. The home side were made up to their full complement for the second period, and had to work hard to protect their lead till Swift and Hind combined for the latter to score. Ste Cooper sent in a cross which eluded everyone and found the net for the third.

Rugby 3 Ye Olde Durhams 4

Rugby lost by the odd goal in seven for the second consecutive week. They gifted their opponents an opener but John Whitfield equalised from 25 yards. Peter Bartelson gave Rugby the lead but two quick goals gave Durhams the lead. Chris Fletcher pressurised the keeper who dropped the ball for Peter Iveson to equalise, but the visitors scored a last minute winner with a fine headed goal from a corner.

* Another result saw Travellers Rest beat Woodcutter 3-1.

Second Division

St Francis 2000 2 Ath Millhouse 1

Craig Thompson's first half free-kick went in off a post to give Mill House the lead although the home side spurned several chances. David Angel headed home Marc Clouston's free-kick to equalise, and the latter volleyed home the winner with a shot from outside of the box which deceived the keeper.

Seaton Holy Trinity 5 St Josephs 2

The home side scored twice in the first five minutes to take control - Lee Munslow heading home Jeff Graham's cross then the latter driving home his first goal for the club.
