STAFF at Teesside International Airport have received honours to thank them for their help during the recent visit from the US President.

Airside operations manager Lee Scott, was presented with a tie clip showing the Presidential Seal and signed by President George W Bush, to thank him for his help in ensuring a smooth visit.

Passenger services manager Vic Errington, who took on the huge responsibility of airport security, was awarded a medallion and presidential seal lapel pin for his efforts.

The airport refuellers received a medallion from the US 100th Fuel Management Flight in recognition of their assistance with the operation of Air Forces One and Two and the numerous support aircraft and helicopters on the visit.

Hugh Lang, airport managing director, said: "Everyone at the airport performed their duties in a very professional manner during the visit, and I am pleased that they have had their efforts acknowledged by President Bush and his staff."

Earlier this week, residents in Sedgefield also received letters from Prime Minister Tony Blair, thanking them for the welcome given to Mr Bush on his visit to the village, and saying he hoped the visit had not caused too much disruption.

Part of one letter said: "The President told me how much he enjoyed his day here, how much he valued the chance to meet and talk to local people and how touched he was by the warmth of the welcome.

"I know he returned home with fond memories of this part of the world and its people.

"I'm only sorry that he did not have the opportunity to meet more of you but I hope you understand why this was not possible."
