Crook Individual Knockout

The two quarter finals matches played produced an exciting finish in one and an unexpected result in the other.

In the first match, Johnny Mason, who finished in third place in the league, met David Haygarth, who finished on the same number of points but had to take fourth place because he lost the match between them. Mason raced away to a great start in the best of seven frames and moved three-nil ahead.

However Haygarth began a recovery, which saw him pull level and take the match to the decider. This proved a tactical battle which Haygarth looked to have won when he potted the black into the middle but then saw the cue ball go down the table, cannon off one of Mason's balls and slide into the corner pocket to lose the match.

Lee Scott, who had led the league in the early stages but finished ninth, played David Stephenson, who finished fifth. The first four frames were very tactical and were shared. In the fifth Stephenson took on a difficult black along the cushion and saw it hang on the lip for Scott to tap in. This inspired Scott to make a good clearance and take the match at 4-2.

The semi-finals on Monday at Crook Coach and Horses are Lee Scott v Johnny Mason and Michael Burke v David Craggs or Neil Campbell. The matches are the best of nine frames.

Durham and District League

The top of the table is starting to look tighter with Sacriston Daisy Hill B moving one point ahead of Consett Stateside after winning 12-1 at home to Ushaw Moor Flass Inn. Stephen Gill won the only game for the Flass. The points for Daisy Hill came from Michael Peel with three, Ian Staines, Helen Littlewood, Brian Clamp, Andrew Morley all with two and Chris Bowron one.

Horden Big Club are ten points adrift of the Stateside but Durham Snooker Club still have three games in hand and Framwellgate Moor Marquis of Granby two so they can still put pressure on the top two. However the leeway will be hard to make up as the Snooker Club are thrity-two points short of the leaders and the Marquis 27.

The see-saw continued as Darren Jones pulled the Grand back only to see Ritchie Turner and Paul Summerfield win the next two games to give the Volti a three points lead and put themon the hill. Alan Sokell started the comeback for the home side by taking the final singles game and, in the first doubles game, Gary McCaskill and David Baglin continued the trend.
