A COLLEGE team did so well in a new sport that all ten members have been invited for national trials.

The team from Northallerton College play Ultimate, a fast moving game involving Frisbees, in which players score by catching the disc in their opponents' end zone in a similar way to American football.

The students played in their first two-day tournament in Leeds last weekend and ended up winning the third division, beating a team from York University 10-2 in the final. They also beat teams from Leeds and Dur-ham universities along the way.

As a result of their success, the entire Northallerton side has been invited to trials for the Great Britain under-19 team to play in the world championships next summer.

Ruth Curtis, joint head of sport at the college, said: "It was a fantastic achievement to win the third division in their first tournament. They were a real credit to their coach, science teacher Tom Candlin."
