In the North Riding Cup Marton Under-14s travelled to Bedale for a North Riding Cup game and came away with an emphatic 20-0 victory against a spirited but depleted home side.

Bedale started brightly and had the advantage of a strong wind behind them, but once Marton settled down and started to play their football they dominated the rest of the game. The biggest cheer of the day went to James Colligan who finally broke his goal drought to score his first goal in a Marton shirt.

Scorers for Marton were Henderson (5), Tyman (4), Johnston (3), Rowney (2), Carroll (2), Kell (2), Walker 1 and Colligan.

Willington moved into third position when they hit Consett with a 9-1 defeat.

Dale Dunn, Christopher Hodgson, Kevin Russell and John Cunningham all scored twice with Darren Clark Willington's other marksman. It was Jamie Seymour, however, who was ranked Willington's man of the match.

Craig Brown was the scorer of Consett's consolation goal and the defeat means that the Steelmen have yet to secure a point from 11 attempts.

Willington, meanwhile, are third five points behind Redheugh with a game in hand.

Darlington Spraire Lads defeated Washington Dunlop 2-1 when John McKie bagged a brace of goals.

Just one game was played at the weekend when New Hartley missed the opportunity to go top of the table. They were defeated by Seaham Red Star who are in third position three points behind leaders Chester-le-Street with a game in hand. Although New Hartley are second just one point adrift of the Cestrians, they have played three games more than Chester-le-Street and have fulfilled no fewer than four additional fixtures compared to Seaham Red Star.

Seaham easily accounted for New Hartley as the goals flowed from Nick Martin with a brace, Daniel Appleby and Dino Carter.

Tow Law Juniors

Tow Law Juniors visited Plains Farm (Sunderland), who needed to win to knock the visitors from the top spot in the table. However the Lawyers got a way to a great start and went ahead after six minutes when Anthony Lee put over a perfect cross for Dwain Dobson to hammer home.

Ten minutes later Lee Mott and Andrew Bonilla combined well to split the home defence with Bonilla confidently stroking the ball home. After 29 minutes Plains Farm were rewarded for their efforts with a penalty for hands with William Bland in the Tow Law goal given no chance.

Just before the break David Murray won possession deep in his own half and hit a good through ball for John Wheatley to run on and chip the advancing home goalkeeper.

Plains Farm showed themselves to be a strong side and managed to reduce the arrears after 68 minutes when they broke clear despite the Lawyers offside appeals. This goal inspired them to greater efforts and the visiting defence had to pull out all the stops to prevent an equaliser. William Bland kept the Lawyers ahead with two great saves as the home side pressed.

However the Lawyers steadily held out against the home storm and then moved back in command. After 79 minutes John Wheatley smacked a great shot against the bar but was unlucky to see it rebound clear. His luck changed just two minutes later when another powerful shot found the net.

In a storming finish Adam Sullivan sent Dwain Dobson through to score his second and just minutes from the end Sullivan was again the provider, this time for substitute, Nicky Martin to move onto a perfect pass and notch his 14th goal of the season.

Centre backs, David Curry and Michael Coulthard had outstanding games but the Man of the Match award went to right full back, Chris Wayman.

This good victory keeps Tow Law at the top of the table as they go into a Festive break. Their next match is on Sunday, 11 January when they entertain Hartlepool Mulgrave Athletic at 11.30 am on the Ironworks Roads Ground, Tow Law.

Bishop Auckland Barrington Wanderers

Barrington Wanderers played at home in a local derby game against Shildon Juniors coming out 5-1 winners. The visitors had well beaten Barrington in a preseason friendly so they were keen not to repeat the performance.

Stephen Brunskill scored his first of a hat-trick seconds after kick-off to give the team a good early goal. With Paul Brunskill showing his pace down the left wing and was extremely unlucky not to score more than one but for the excellent personal performance from the Shildon Keeper. Barrington proved just too strong this time round and showed how the team have progressed during the season. Substitute Andrew Howe coming on and scoreing the fifth showing that his patience on the bench had been worthwhile as he is now challenging for his place in the starting XI.

Chris Cowen was named man of the match.

Newton Aycliffe Sports Club

Newton Aycliffe Under-9s, sponsored by Manerf Ltd, drew 1-1 with St Mary's B Under-10s from division three.

Aycliffe from the start pushed into the visitors half and within seconds of the whistle some good link up play from Ben Stevens & Kurt Matthews saw Kurt finishing just wide. Further sustained pressure throughout the first period saw the Aycliffe forwards taking shot after shot, all of which were, matched by the visitors man-of-the-match keeper. Ryan Draffon broke the deadlock with an individual effort leaving the keeper no chance.

A good team talk at half time saw the visitors immediately attack Aycliffe, hitting long balls for the defence to deal with. Both defenders Connor Lyon & Thomas Iley working hard with the aid of the ever-present Jack Slatcher, tackling strong and creating space to play out from contained initial early attacks. A good ball through saw Aycliffe defending on the back foot, the keeper Thomas Prior saved well to see a goalmouth clearance hit him while returning to goal and rebounding into the net. Aycliffe immediately set to the task and saw an excellent shot by Matthews again saved by the visiting keeper. Several corners and attacks all broke down to see time run out with the draw.

Man of the matches were Ryan Draffan and Kurt Matthews.

Playing against Billingham Town, Newton Aycliffe Under-10s won 4-0.

Billingham played good attacking football, however, it was the Jaguars who got the early breakthrough when Jake Wilson prodded home a loose ball in the box. Aycliffe doubled their lead before half time when some good interplay amongst the whole team led to Jake Job latching onto a low right wing cross from Jordon Steele.

Billingham worked tirelessly spurned quite a few opportunities to get back into the game, Aycliffe maintaining their lead through some excellent goalkeeping from man of the match Michael Haykin.

The third goal came when a left wing corner fell to Jake Job just inside the box. The game was sealed when Steele ran through with the ball and smashed it goal wards. The keeper got down to it but unfortunately for him it squirmed under his body and into the goal.

The scoreline doesn't reflect a game of two well-matched teams, however, The Jaguars took their chances well and Billingham found themselves up against an inform Aycliffe keeper.

Aycliffe Jaguars would like to wish their sponsors, Filtronic, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

A very entertaining game played by two evenly matched sides saw Newton Aycliffe Under-10s of Division Two travel to Seaton Carew. NASC had most of the early attacking play using Atherton on the left of midfield to carve out openings. Berezanskij had the first chance of the game for Aycliffe after Patterson's sprint and clever pass. The shot was wide of the goal but NASC had clearly set out their stall. Howe had the next chance taking the ball from midfield only for his shot to travel wide. Midway through the half, Seaton scored through Riley after Aycliffe made a rare mistake. Seaton gained in confidence and finished the half the better team. Seaton's marking was excellent and they stifled Aycliffe's early second half play. Aycliffe's chance came when Michael Howe collected the ball and ran the right flank. Just as it seemed he had been forced too far toward the corner he shot a low powerful ball across the keeper and into the far corner. NASC then pushed for a winner but the game ended 1-1 which was probably, the right result. Harry Rockett was man of the match.
