The Professional Footballers' Association will hold talks with administrators today after voicing their concern over Darlington's unpaid players.

Northern Echo SPORT understands the Quakers squad have now been paid the outstanding wages owed to them from December but the cash-strapped club have yet to pay them up to date this month.

In November, players and staff went over a month without pay.

And last night Mick McGuire, deputy chairman of the PFA, admitted the situation is a matter which needs attention.

He said last night: "This is a major concern and we will be looking in to it.

"We'll be speaking to the administrators about it tomorrow to see what support we can offer.

"I spoke to the manager and the chairman just before Christmas about what help we could give and the next thing we knew was that the club had gone into administration."

The PFA have already provided help for 30 clubs this season - some of whom have agreed on financial packages to help pay players' wages.

In receiving financial assistance from the PFA, manager David Hodgson would face a transfer embargo, where he would only be permitted to make loan signings. But given Quakers' current financial plight, that would make little difference.

However, Hodgson could make one temporary signing before Saturday's visit of promotion-chasing Hull City.

The Quakers boss may draft in a goalkeeper, with Andy Collett ruled out for six weeks after damaging shoulder ligaments in a friendly at Scottish Division Three side Gretna on Tuesday.

Youth-team keeper Jack Norton, 16, provides the only cover for Michael Price.

However, any move for Middlesbrough goalkeeper Ross Turnbull looks unlikely, with Carlo Nash facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing a finger operation and Mark Schwarzer not yet fully fit following a back injury.

Boro boss Steve McClaren is unlikely to allow Turnbull to return to Quakers for a second spell until Nash is fit again.

The Bishop Auckland-born stopper made one appearance on loan at Quakers before his stay was cut short following his call up to the England Under-20 squad for the World Youth Championships in the United Arab Emirates.

Hodgson has yet to make a decision on on-loan duo Lee Matthews and Craig James.

Bristol City forward Matthews and Sunderland defender James are due to return to their clubs after Saturday's game.

Defender Joey Hutchinson plays his final game on Saturday before serving a one-match ban for comments made to referee Trevor Kettle after the 3-1 defeat at Mansfield in October. Hutchinson will miss the trip to Kidderminster a week on Saturday.
