DIVISION Two side Masons Arms skipped into the semi-finals of the B&A Trophy last week with an impressive win at the Grand.

The Arms are already in the last four of the Division Two cup as well currently sitting second in the league table.

And they won 4-2 at the Grand thanks to two goals by Ian Crow and one each from Gary Dixon and Peter Kerr.

"We're having a great season," said Secretary John Booth. "We're resigned to losing the second division title to Hunwick, but we're enjoying two good cup runs now and we still have high hopes of winning promotion, so it's going well for us up to now."

Top-flight side Old Shildon also progressed to the semi-finals of the competition with a 1-0 win over Green Tree, Ian Maddison getting the goal.

In the second round, Victoria booked their place in the quarter-finals with a 5-4 win at Postchaise.

Jason Greenland (2), Marc Nelson, James Smith and a Ray Walton own goal were scorers for the Vic, while Lee Taylor scored a hat-trick for Postchaise, and Walton scoring at the proper end to make up a close fight.

Thorns also went through to meet Loves in the quarter-finals after beating Newton Aycliffe 5-1, Andrew Richardson (3) and Sean Richardson on the scoresheet.

Beehive were beating Division Two title-chasers Hunwick 2-0 thanks to goals by Kenny Melvin before the match had to be abandoned at half-time due to the deterioration of the pitch.

Therefore, Old Shildon and Masons Arms are in the semi-finals, with the winners of Hunwick and Beehive playing Victoria in the quarter-finals. The remaining quarter final tie is between Thorns and Loves.

In the league last week, the Loves dropped two points after beating rivals Old Shildon when they drew 1-1 with Tudhoe United.

Elsewhere, Lakeside's floundering season continued when they slumped to a miserable 5-1 defeat at Binchester Social Club.

Lee Furber scored a hat-trick, plus goals by Scott Smith and Chris Pickles compounded Lakeside's frustrating campaign. Dale Nelson scored for Lakeside.

In Division Two, Middlestone Moor recorded an emphatic win over faltering North Briton.

Recent results have spoiled what promised to be an encouraging season for the Brit, and Mickey Moor piled more misery on the Aycliffe Village outfit with a 7-0 win.

Dave Parker netted a hat-trick, while David Leary (2), Michael Symons and John Rammage were also on target.

Player-manager Jimmy Tray said: "We weren't expecting it. After they were well beaten by Hunwick the previous week, we were expecting a back-lash from the Brit, but they weren't really at the races. Although a seven-goal win did perhaps flatter us."

Meanwhile, Cumby Arms beat Masons United 5-0 with goals by Michael Hannon (2), Jonathan Hall (2) and Michael Hestletine.

Shildon Athletic beat Voltigeur 4-1 thanks to strikes by Steven Bennett, Chris Moss and Ryan Laffey. William Ward scored for the Volti.

The game between Eldon Arms and Boot & Shoe was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
