WHITBY and Scarborough are among Oscar-winning Hollywood actress Gwynneth Paltrow's favourite places in Britain.

The recently married 30-year-old Shakespeare in Love star is four-months pregnant and has said she has no plans to return to the US.

Although she and Coldplay's Chris Martin live in London's trendy Belgravia, her love of the two resorts could see them moving north, to the home territory of actors Sir Ben Kingsley, the late Charles Laughton.

It is understood the anglophile first visited the North Yorkshire towns in 2000 when filming the movie Possession based on the book by AS Byatt, in Whitby.

Local estate agent, Astins in Whitby, said that although they have no millionaire's mansions on their books at present, they would expect the star to favour a home in one of the outlying villages, such as Goathland or Eggton.

Office manager Anne Miller said: "This is a pretty seaside town, it wouldn't offer the shopping she is used to in London and LA, but it would make a wonderful retreat."

Ms Paltrow says in an interview in the next edition of Glamour magazine that she will not raise her child in the US, as she feels her homeland is too dangerous.

"I worry about bringing a child up in America," she says. "At the moment there's a weird, over-patriotic atmosphere over there, like, 'We're number one and the rest of the world doesn't matter'."
