A FEAST of jumping on Saturday followed the all-weather fare on which we depended during the frosty times and there was much to savour for one of our Fifteen to Follow and the Johnson-Wylie team.

Our Armageddon, trained by Richard Guest, has been the flag-bearer of our 15 and won at Haydock, again in superb front-running fashion, under Larry McGrath.

His ante-post odds for the Arkle at Cheltenham were cut from 25-1 to 20-1.

Mary Reveley was also a winner on the Haydock card with Le Royal.

Howard Johnson's successes for his new patrons, Graham and Andrea Wylie, continued as impressive Inglis Drever powered home alone in the Warwick Grade 2 novice hurdle under Graham Lee.

Despite this easy victory, Johnson afterwards played cats-among-pigeons as he suggested he might run the Wylies' Chivalry in the Champion Hurdle at the Festival rather than Inglis Drever, who may go instead to Aintree.

Chivalry, the Cambridgeshire winner bought from Sir Mark Prescott's yard, is due to run today at Kelso.

From our 15, Silver Knight (Tim Easterby, Russ Garritty) was third in the novice chase earlier behind Guest's Tyneandthyneagain, but the pair were a long way behind the winner, D'Argent (A King).

Through The Rye, another of our 15, was at Uttoxeter but was very disappointing in the handicap hurdle, a distant ninth and last of the finishers.

The race was won by Benbyas, now trained by Declan Carroll at his Warthill base.

Tom Tate was also on the mark with Temple Dog in the novice chase and this looked one to follow.

On Tuesday, Mick Easterby sent out a useful-looking gelding in the shape of Parknasilla, 20-1 winner by a head in the novice hurdle opener.

Sedgefield saw wins from Ferdy Murphy, George Moore, the in-form Howard Johnson and Noel Wilson. Johnson said that his winner Gratton Lodge was a "trainer's dream" and could go on to better things.

Murphy's winner, Bonnie Parker, and Moore's, Sylviesbuck, both tried to head for the exit, but jockeys Davy Russell and Russ Garritty both worked hard to ensure their respective successes.

Wilson's winner was his first since he moved into part of Jimmy FitzGerald's yard two months ago.

The all-weather scenario continued as last week, with Patrick Haslam in his usual cracking start to any year.

Rosti won again for him at Southwell, while Yankeedoodledandy did the same at Wolverhampton, both last Thursday.

David Barron, David Nicholls and Kevin Ryan were also on the scorecards.

Mel Brittain sent out two in his own colours during the week to add to the yard's success of his tenant Declan Carroll over jumps on Saturday.

Wilf Storey is a shrewd placer of runners and Paddy Mull took the mile and three-quarters race at Southwell on Thursday of last week.

Both Mick Easterby and Richard Fahey found openings for their charges at Wolverhampton's grade G races on Monday.

They say there's one novel in all humans - it now seems there may be at least one race in every horse!
