JENNY the black and white "Felix" cat may have been living rough but she did not go hungry.

The cat toured old people's bungalows in Dunelm, Sacriston near Durham, where pensioners were only too happy to provide her with tasty morsels.

Diane Jackson, of the Cats Protection League, said: "She has been going round to three or four old ladies for food. She would go to one for breakfast, then to another.

"She is absolutely huge, massive. She must weigh a stone. She certainly had her head screwed on and knew where to go."

Jenny, about five years old, has been stray for a few months but her rescuers do not know whether the cat is lost or has been abandoned.

"She is an absolutely gorgeous cat, really friendly," said Mrs Jackson. "She has been very well looked after and she had a collar on but there is no name or address.

"She is in very good condition, which leads me to believe she is somebody's pet. She has been stray for at least four months, sleeping rough or, if the weather was bad, staying with one of the old ladies."

If Jenny's owners do not come forward, the group hopes a new home can be found.
