TERMINAL cancer sufferer Jane Tomlinson yesterday announced that she is to take on another gruelling challenge, despite being seriously ill.

After a tough Christmas and New Year coping with the cancer, the 39-year-old mother-of-three plans to run the York half- marathon, only ten days after coming off a four-month course of chemotherapy treatment.

Mrs Tomlinson, of Rothwell, Leeds, defied all odds three years ago when she was told she would die within months from the cancer that had spread from her breast to her lungs and through to her bones.

Since then she has completed a triathlon, a half-ironman tri-athlon, two marathons, and numerous other races. She has won many awards, including an MBE from the Queen and has been voted the UK's most inspirational woman.

This weekend she will be pushing her body to the limit by running the half-marathon.

Her husband Mike said: "She wants to show and prove to people who are also suffering from cancer that there is hope for you and show people that they needn't be frightened of chemotherapy."

It will be the third time Jane has tackled the York event, which she will run alongside her husband Mike and brother Luke.

She said: "The last four months have been very difficult and the treatment has been very debilitating. I will probably need a little luck and some good thoughts."

The Brass Monkeys Half Marathon takes place at the York Knavesmire racecourse on Sunday.
