Auckland Area CIU League: Old Shildon have finally found their darts accuracy for they made their third consecutive victory after losing all their other matches since joining the league.

They only dropped one point to the visiting Eldon Lane. Geoff Rowland, Phil Cleasby and Michael Aldworth took singles for the Shildon team and added the team game, whilst Colin Patterson took the Lane's lone point.

In a key top of the table darts encounter West Auckland stayed well clear at the top when they edged through to beat the visiting Cockton Hill by the odd point. Robert Douthwaite, Chris Kitch and John Denham won for West with Tommy Ward taking a singles for the Hill, who added the team game.

Old Shildon top the dominoes section following their two points win over Eldon Lane. Keith Gittens, Alan Bell and Alan Hobson won for Shildon with John Bell scoring for Eldon. The Shildon side went to the top of the 5's and 3's table when Darren Blood, Geoff Rowland and Alan bell won, with Kenny Williams replying for Eldon.

Eldon Lane took revenge at whist when they went to the top of the table with wins from John Bell, Ronnie Thompson and Alan race, whilst Alan Hobson scored for Old Shildon.

Cockton Hill lost their lead in the pool table when they went down at West Auckland. Brian Denham, Chris Kitch and Paul Brownson won for West with dennis Race scoring the Hill's only point. The Cockton Hill defeat allowed Old Shildon to move to the top of the pool section when they drew with Eldon Lane. Alan Bell senior and Alan Bell junior won for Old Shildon with Ritchie Sumpton and Kevin Weldon replying.

Tow Law Scottish Courage Cup

Tow Law Rose and Crown edged their way into the final after a nail-biting session at Hamilton Row Black Horse where they went to victory by winning the final pool doubles and avoided a captain's play-off at dominoes.

The pool singles were shared with Chris Elliss, John Robinson and Barry Sims winning for the home side, whilst Lee Mowbray, Gavin Hammell and Richard Charlton levelled. The Black Horse edged into a lead when they took the dominoes by the odd point with wins from Pat Elliott, Alan Taylor and Jim Christalow just beating the points for the visitors from Anthony Ward and Steven Todd.

Anthony Ward and Lee Mowbray squared the match by winning the first pool doubles and Adam Orton and Richard Charlton then pushed the Tow Law team one short of victory, which was completed when Steven Todd and Gavin Hammell beat Steve Wilkie and Marc McCormick.

Tow Law Rose and Crown will now meet the winners of the other semi-final between Tow Law Dan's Castle A and Newhouse Club on Wednesday, February 18.

Tow Law Coors Cup

Tow Law Dan's Castle threw off thoughts of their league position when they came through to win the quarter final on their visit to Tow Law Rose and Crown. The home side only managed five points in the match with Alan Spence being the home star with singles wins at both dominoes and darts. Ron Kitching added a darts singles whilst Dorothy Mowbray with Christine Rand and Vina Gwynnette with Ken Gwynette took dominoes doubles. The Castle had points from Ian Johnson, David Murray, Paul Murray, Anthony Hird, Lee Stockdale, Angela Suddes, Chris Bowes and Wayne Tennant.

Cornsay Royal Oak reached the semi finals with a five points victory at Esh McKennas. Only Alan Hennigan managed to take a darts point for the home side, whilst Ray Thompson, Charlie Leight and Alan Hennigan added dominoes singles points with Keith Starr and Ray Thompson contributing a dominoes doubles. The Oak had darts singles wins from Ray Young, Brian Bayles, Ian Truby, John Close and Chris Close, whilst Scott Windsor, Chris Close and Steve Witherspoon added dominoes singles.

Willington Ladies League

The leaders of both the darts and the dominoes sections were beaten, but both managed to hang on to their top spots. In the darts section Willington Club B travelled to Sunnybrow Brown Trout and went down by three points. In the dominoes section leaders, Willington Burn travelled to the second placed Prospect Club and only managed to collect one point.

In the darts section the Club B lead their A team by two points with the Brown Trout and Willington Black Horse A a further thirteen points adrift. The situation in the dominoes table is tighter with the Burn leading the Prospect by four points, with Willington Cottles A and Willington Club A a further two points behind.

CIU League

The annual meeting will be held in Ferryhill Club at 7pm prompt on Thursday, February 5. All existing teams are invited to join again but there is room for new teams from CIU affiliated premises.

The League organises sections for darts, dominoes and pool in a normal home and away format but also adds captains and doubles competitions with every league game, a Team Knockout and League Championships in darts dominoes and pool.

There has been a lot of interest shown from new teams but any that are serious about entering must ring the secretary, Steve Wray on 01740 655591 prior to the meeting and then guarantee that they have a representative at the meeting.
