A TEENAGE boy supplied an undercover police officer with two £40 bags of cocaine after arranging a meeting in an earlier phone call.

Durham Crown Court heard that the 15-year-old answered a phone call from an officer using the name Sarah, who arranged to meet him at a workingmen's club.

Unknown to the boy, the call was recorded, and the officer met him at the club, off Sherburn Road, Durham, where the purchase of the drug was completed.

Two days later, two other undercover officers bought a further £80 worth of cocaine from 20-year-old Gareth Brodie, after arranging the meeting in Sherburn Road.

The purchase was recorded on closed-circuit television, Caroline Goodwin, prosecuting, told the court.

She said the "incontrovertible" tape and video evidence were put to both after their arrests, leading to each admitting a count of supplying the class-A drug.

Miss Goodwin said police launched the operation to target drug dealers in the Sherburn Road area.

Rob Mairs, representing the 15-year-old, said it was a single involvement in the supply of the drug, which came about under the influence of an older brother.

Rachel Hedworth, for Brodie, said he had never been involved in drug offending before, and that while in custody, he had time, "to reflect on the stupidity of what he had done".

Brodie, of Cuthbert Avenue, Sherburn Road, who became 21 yesterday, was jailed for two years.

Judge John Walford said that because of the 15-year-old's age and virtual trouble-free record, he could show leniency.

He imposed a two-year supervision order, which includes six months of intensive supervision and surveillance, as well as an 8pm to 7am electronically monitored home curfew.
