A DOG which has been in rescue kennels for almost a year needs a home.

Sprout, a three-year-old German shepherd cross, has been living at the Dogs Trust Darlington Rehoming Centre, at Sadberge, since he was rescued.

Catherine Gillie, manager of the centre, formerly the National Canine Defence League, said Sprout had a bad start in life, which had led to him behaving unpredictably with strangers.

But she said with the right new owner, he would be the perfect companion.

"Sprout needs someone dedicated and maybe with German shepherd experience, who will visit him quite often to walk him and establish that bond before he goes home," she said.

"He really is a great dog and gets on so well with the canine carers here, but just doesn't sell himself very well in kennels. If someone is prepared to put the time in with Sprout, they really will get a smashing new friend."

Sprout will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and comes with six weeks free insurance.

Dogs Trust will also provide advice the owner might require.

Anyone interested in giving Sprout, or any other dog, a home can contact the centre on (01325) 333114.
