Darlington FC attracted a strong crowd on Saturday for a long-sought-after win at the Reynolds Arena.
The Quakers beat Rochdale 1 - 0, with winger Chris Hughes scoring a spectacular goal in the second half.
More than 4,800 people were on hand, and organisers were very pleased with the attendance considering the bad weather. It rained all day Saturday, with the wind picking up later in the afternoon.
Many people believed the game would be cancelled, as was neighbouring Hartlepool's clash against Luton Town.
However, thousands of hardy fans braved the nasty weather to see the Quakers pick up three points. Chris Hughes was named Man of the Match.
The game bagan with The Northern Echo's managing director, David Kelly, presenting Quakers' manager Dave Hodgson with a cheque for more £22,000. The Northern Echo's sponsor a minute appeal saw tens of businesses and individuals sponsor minutes of the game, with the money going towards the Quakers' trust fund.
The club is in administration and has debts of more than £20m.
