Police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a mother who lay dead in her home for three weeks before she was found.

Christine Longworth, 33, was found dead with multiple stab wounds at her home in Chopwell, Gateshead, on January 27.

The mother-of-five had lived alone in William Street. The alarm was raised when neighbours noticed her Christmas decorations had not been taken down.

Her children, aged from 10 downwards, who are with different foster and adoption families, have been told of her death.

A police spokesman said today: "A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Christine Longworth and will be interviewed by detectives today." ends
