POLICE are investigating a burglary at the home of an 87-year-old Darlington woman at the weekend.
The victim returned to her home, in Milbank Road, after going out for Sunday lunch, but left her key in the front door by mistake.
She then saw a teenage boy, about 17, standing in her hallway. He said that he had spotted a man running out of her house and had been concerned.
The woman said she wanted to give him a reward and went into the living room to get some money from a wallet.
She gave him £5 and they then went to the back of the house, to discuss security measures.
They had a short conversation, but he suddenly left the house. She later discovered that her wallet had been taken.
The incident occurred between 5.15pm and 5.30pm on Sunday. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Danny Townsend on (01325) 467681.
