A SCHOOL netball team has its own strip for the first time, thanks to the generosity of a player's father.

Ellis Baker has kitted out the year eight netball team at Hurworth School Maths and Computing College, near Darlington.

He is a health and safety consultant and is sponsoring the team through his company, ECB Consultancy Services.

The netball dresses and bibs are in the school colours of black with white piping. They have the school name written across the back and the company name and website address printed on them.

Mr Baker's wife, Kay, is a teaching assistant at the school.

The couple's daughter, Kayleigh, 13, is a member of the netball team. Their younger daughter Sabrina plays for the year seven team.

Mrs Baker said: "Up until now they've been playing in their PE kit, which is just T-shirts and shorts. Following a request, my husband said he'd sponsor them."

The girls trained in their new strip for the first time yesterday and are taking part in a tournament at the Dolphin Centre, Darlington, today.
