A CINEMA, auditorium, exhibition space, meeting rooms, micro-brewery, restaurant and caf are all included in the funding bid for Richmond's old station building.

Companies and individuals interested in taking space in the building had to register by October and, since then, the Richmond Building Preservation Trust has been leading negotiations to establish which are realistic.

Formal bids for cash have been submitted to Yorkshire Forward and the European Structural Fund, giving a more definite shape to the building proposals. Trust board member Donald Cline said: "The desire is to add to what is already available in the area and to ensure local people do not have to head for urban areas to have access to such facilities."

Swaledale Cheese Company, on Richmond's Gallowfields industrial estate, is hoping to set up a visitor centre, while craft workshops, a skills training area and a permanent heritage display are part of the package.

The building has been empty since the former Farm and Garden Supply Centre closed.
