TWO teenagers were arrested at the weekend during a police crackdown on anti-social behaviour.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested in Darlington on suspicion of cannabis possession and a 14-year-old girl was arrested for being drunk and incapable in Middleton St George, near Darlington.

One boy was taken home by police because he was drunk.

Officers also seized large quantities of alcohol from underage drinkers.

Inspector Sue Collingwood, one of Darlington's two community inspectors, warned youngsters last week they could expect to be arrested for nuisance behaviour.

Yesterday, she said there were fewer incidents of youths causing annoyance than usual at the weekend.

Officers received 11 calls from 2pm to 11pm on Friday, fewer than normal.

She said: "Generally we found that things were a lot quieter this weekend.

"The youngsters that were out and about had quite clearly got the message from their schools that any anti-social behaviour would be clamped down on.

"That said, we still had the two arrests and a large amount of alcohol seized."

She said officers would continue to focus their efforts on stamping out anti-social behaviour.

"In terms of the message we wanted to get out this weekend, it worked, but that is not to say the problem is solved.
