THIRTEEN flood warnings were still in place in North Yorkshire last night, but no new serious flooding incidents had been reported.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said they had not been called out to deal with any flooding for the past two days, but people were still being urged to be on their guard by the Environment Agency.
The River Ouse, in York, was the subject of five flood warnings, including the riverside footpaths and from Bishopthorpe to St George's field.
Two new flood warnings were in place at Kirby Wiske following heavy rain on Tuesday. The River Swale and the River Wiske at the access roads to the village were both on alert.
Three warnings were also in place on the River Ure at Langthorpe, Aldwark Bridge and between Bishop Monkton and Roecliffe caravan park.
In Scalby, near Scarborough, urgent repair work got under way yesterday on the banks of Church Becks, in Hackness Road.
A deluge of floodwater scoured the banks of the beck following the rapid melting of last week's snow and heavy rain on Saturday, undermining a retaining wall which supports a public footpath.
Scarborough Borough Council's contractors began work yesterday to repair the banks and remove the debris that is partially blocking the beck.
In work expected to take a week to complete, steel piles will be driven 6ft below the level of the beck to protect the road and footpath from erosion.
