Durham Under-21 Restricted Tournament: On Saturday the Durham Under-21 Restricted Tournament took place at Gateshead stadium and the men's singles was won by Richard Comras (Durham University) who beat James Knox (Sunderland) 15 -3, 15-7 in the final.
Comras had a particularly hard semi-final against Daniel Smith (B. Auckland), winning in three sets while Knox beat Sunderland's Duncan Coiulson in straight sets.
The men's doubles final was won by Comras and Thomas Twiney also of Durham University when their opponents Duncan and brother Adam Coulson had to withdraw when Duncan took ill. This happened when the final was balanced at one set all. Unfortunately, Duncan, who had also reached the mixed final with partner Kamilla Patel (Washington) had to concede giving the title to Adam Coulson and Louise Trueman (Darlington).
The ladies singles was won by the favourite Louise Trueman who beat Claire Tumelty (Aycliffe) 11-5, 11-2 in the final, Louise only losing three points to reach there. In the ladies doubles Louise and Kirsty Whitehouse (Hartlepool) beat Hayley Robson (Cleadon) and Lynsey Wheatley (Gateshead) in a hard-fought three setter, 13-15, 15-8 ands 17-14.
