Yarm School played host last week to a visiting side from South America, where they will be going on tour later this year.

St Andrew's Scots School, from Argentina, are on a tour of the British Isles and arrived in Yarm after playing their first match at Strathallan School in Perthshire.

The Yarm boys knew the match would be tough and they spent the first ten minutes camped on their own line.

To their credit, the defence remained firm and Yarm took the lead against the run of play when Tom Jeffrey ran in an interception try from 60 metres. Charlie Catterall converted to give Yarm a 7-0 lead.

The score increased Yarm's confidence, but they were still starved of possession as the Argentinian team's mobile, physical forwards continued to overpower them.

Their sustained pressure was rewarded with an unconverted try to reduce Yarm's lead to 7-5 at half-time.

The second half started off much more evenly with Yarm establishing some possession. But, as the game wore on, St Andrew's once again took control and only a magnificent covering tackle from Catterall stopped them scoring in the corner.

Despite more heroic defence, the visitors scored a second try to win a hugely physical and entertaining game 10-7.

The matches were followed by a tour supper and presentation in the school dining hall.
