The cancellation of last weekends' fixtures gives the opportunity to review the season thus far.

On the league front Greyhound would appear to have an unassailable lead but their recent defeat gives the chasing pack some hope with perhaps ex-champs Grey Horse having on paper the best chance of overhauling them.

Killinghall Arms are in a false position at the bottom having several games in hand of all the teams above them. They should improve their position in the coming weeks but fixture congestion must be a big worry and tired legs may well catch up with them in due course. The "new" clubs have acquitted themselves well in this their first season in the league. Fox & Hounds found it necessary to resign their membership despite having completed half their fixtures. However their failure to play several fixtures in the space of five weeks just before Christmas lead to their inevitable demise.

Both Heighington and Barnard Castle should be pleased with their efforts so far and they can only get stronger and better as initial teething troubles are overcome and they come to terms with life in an adult sphere of football.

The second rounds of the Leagues Cup competition have yet to be completed although Killinghall Arms are through to the semi-final of the Kingfisher Finance Trophy. The progress of the Leagues' clubs in the external cup competitions has on the whole been disappointing although Newton Aycliffe are through to the quarter finals of both the Durham Minor and Sacristion Aged Miners Cups, Heighington to the quarter final of the South Durham Charity Bowl and Killinghall Arms the semis and Grey Horse will contest a quarter final tie of the Darlington Charity Cup on a date to be arranged.

The current leaders in the man of the match awards for the Harold Wilkinson Player of the Year Trophy are: Stephen Odle (Heighington) 5, David Palmer (Grey Horse) 4.

Leading scorers (league goals only): Peter Robson (Greyhound) 13, Peter Gray (DGSOB) 11, Mark Maddison (East End WMC) 9, Darren Watson (East End WMC) 9.
