Bedale have appointed new captains for 2004 in Tony Howard and Dorothy Hill.

Tony is a Yorkshireman born and bred. Originally from a farming background, he has moved into the food industry and is currently managing director of specialist grocer, Lewis and Cooper in Northallerton.

A fairly recent convert to golf after undergoing major heart surgery ten years ago, Tony has played a major part in the activities of the club. As vice-captain he ran the B team matches last year and is an active member of the Rabbits and Seniors sections and his popularity in the seniors is no doubt influenced by his provision of Christmas puddings to be played for at that time of year, a practice he started some years ago.

In golf Tony currently plays to a handicap of 19 and he has won many prizes over the years including the Bode Cup.

Married to Mary, they have three daughters, Sally, Victoria and Bettina and three grandsons.

Dorothy is also from a farming background having been born at Kiplin on a farm and now lives and farms at Otterington with her husband James and as the children have flown the nest she keeps herself busy running a bed and breakfast.

A member of Bedale for seven years, Dorothy plays a competitive handicap of 23 and as vice-captain has been responsible for arranging B team and friendly matches.

In her golfing career she has won many competitions including the club nett championship and on a recent golfing holiday in Portugal she took the top ladies prize over the week.

With husband James, the Hill family have two daughters, Barbara and Christine, together with four granddaughters, none of whom are golfers but are very supportive.
