Two teams from Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, Darlington, will compete in the English Schools' Swimming Championships tomorrow.
The girls' team of Natasha Crawley, Rachael Piggett, Lynsey Carveth, Hannah Fay and Carol Mohan, will swim in the medley and freestyle relays, while the boys - Andrew Booth, Ryan Livingstone, James Carter and Mark Richardson - swim in the medley relay at the championships in Crawley.
They won their places after competing in regional heats and clocking up times within the best 12 in the country.
Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College has developed a record of excellence for swimming over the last few years, sending teams to the national championships since 2000 when the boys won the bronze medal in the medley relay.
The college's success reached its pinnacle in 2001 with the boys taking the gold and becoming national champions in the medley.
Last year the girls' team just failed to win a medal but there are high hopes that both teams will be placed in the top three this year.
Julia Atkinson, Head of Sport & PE, said: "Both teams have been training hard and have recorded good times.
"It will be a first if both the boys and the girls bring home medals, and I think they're in with a good chance. They certainly deserve to be successful."
