REMEMBER Red Marauder slogging through the mud under Richard Guest in Norman Mason's colours to land the Grand National in 2001?

We may have found another! Tyneandthyneagain, trained by the former jockey (who is taking out his riding licence again), landed what used to be called the Great Yorkshire Chase on Saturday. Henry Oliver wore the familiar red and blue colours of Mr Mason and partnered the winner in the re-named Skybet Chase, completely dominating the high-class field in a mudbath at Doncaster.

Bred by his owner out of his good racemare Radical Lady, Tyneandthyneagain will now be aimed at the Eider at Newcastle, the Midlands National and possibly even the big Aintree event won by his stablemate three years ago. But trainer Guest said: "I won't train him specifically for Aintree this season. How often does it come up soft there?"

The stable's form was franked at Newcastle on Wednesday when Larry McGrath won on Polished.

The Grand National entries and weights were published this week and Saturday's winner has 10st 5lb (bottom weight is 10.0). Guest also has Red Striker (10.5) entered and, out of the handicap proper, Mr Bossman (9.8) and Nosam (8.6).

Howard Johnson had two strong entries, but later this week said that Valley Henry (11.8) was more likely to go for the Martell, while surprise Charlie Hall Chase winner Ballybrough Rasher (11.3) was out for the rest of the season, having never really been right since that Wetherby race in November.

Johnson won with another of the Wylies' pricey purchases again as Graham Lee partnered Royal Rosa at Ayr on Saturday.

Back to Aintree and Mary Reveley has A Piece Of Cake (10.6), one of our Fifteen to Follow. Mick Easterby's Hermes III, lightly raced and a respectable third recently, is on just 10.3.

All of Ferdy Murphy's three are out of the handicap - Man On The Hill (9.7), Luzcadou (9.2) and Granit D'Estruval (9.1). Luzcadou ran a much better race on Saturday to win at Ayr, albeit through the departure of Thosewerethedays at the last fence.

The West Witton horses haven't been quite right and Murphy has signed off for a break. Yesterday morning, much of his string was turned out in rugs to roll and romp in the paddocks at Wynbury.

Two of our 15 were in action at Doncaster and Tom Tate's Europa wasn't disgraced in his first run this season on ground too testing, third in the handicap chase. Patriarch Express was a big disappointment later, last of six in the handicap hurdle after running well early doors.

Edmo Yewkay looked a possible for the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, winning well for Tim Easterby at the Town Moor. The other entry from the yard in the Triumph is Kentucky Blue.

Tim Walford won with Mrs E C York's homebred Petrea at Newcastle on Wednesday, conditional rider (jumps apprentice) David Crosse having travelled up from Lambourn for the single ride.

Much racing as far as we were concerned was on the all-weather, with another week of either faraway meetings or washouts. Uttoxeter was lost on Saturday, Towcester yesterday and Wetherby looks doubtful for tomorrow.

On the scoresheet as usual were Karl Burke, David Barron and Patrick Haslam. Don Enrico won again with Simply The Guest. Linda Stubbs got off the seasonal mark, daughter Kirstin riding. David Chapman, out of sorts lately, won with the veteran Torrent.
