League leaders Willington WMC turned in a first class performance against West Auckland Queens Head.

After scoring five in his previous game, Stephen Bradwell grabbed a hat-trick in Willington's 5-2 win. Lee Genner and Richard Breen were also on target for Willington who led 2-1 at half time. David Huntrods and Martin Robinson scored for Queens Head who gave a very lethargic display.

Rugby Club kept up the pressure on the leaders with a home win against Wearhead. Dwayne Hinds (4), Darren Slater (2) and Kevin McCormack were the scorers in a 7-1 win for Rugby Club. Kelly Goofellow scored the Wearhead consolation but the defeat was their fourth in the league in succession.

Tow Law Station and Stanley United provided excellent entertainment in the Albert Vickers Cup. The game swung both ways before Stanley eventually won 5-4 through Wayne Lonsdale (3), David Pakes and Jason Heslop. Edward Umpleby (2), Anthony Hird and Anthony Saville scored for Tow Law whose last three defeats have all been by the odd goal.

Consett Sunday League

QUITE a showdown was anticipated when the leaders of the Second Division Burton House were at home to First Division title favourites Leadgate Golden Lion in the Jack Grigg Memorial Cup.

A semi-final place was up for grabs and yet it turned into a one-way rout with class the deciding factor as the Golden Lion cruised to a runaway 8-0 win.

Both Mark Turner and Andrew Thompson blasted two goals each with the others coming from John Dettmar, Chris Soulsby, Ian Davidson and David Thompson.

Only two matches managed to escape the weather. In the Third Division, Ball Alley boosted their promotion hopes when they hit the Duke of Wellington for six.

There was two goals for both Martin Pritchard and Darren Scarr with the other couple netted by Paul Balmer and Michael Finlow with the Duke managing a consolation through David Heron.

The prolific scoring Gavin Rowell hit another two goals for the Highwayman but it was all to no avail in Division Two as the home side went down by the odd goal in five to Steel Club who found match winners in Louis Bell, David Pearson and Andy McArdle.
