Worthington CIU League: Old Shildon caused a major shock when they defeated the visiting joint First Division leaders, Wheatley Hill A in a week where the programme was cut to less than half by the weather.

Wheatley Hill A found themselves trailing by three points as Old Shildon took the first three frames through Peter Coates, David Waites and Malcolm Parsley. Dave Walker broke the Hill's duck with a 31 break, but Paul Armstrong sealed a good victory for the home side by taking the final frame with a 32 break.

Spennymoor A took advantage of the Wheatley Hill defeat by moving five points clear at the top follow in their maximum victory at Sherburn Village. The Moors winners were Michael Pratt with a 32 break, Eddie Rhodes, Paul Biddle, Paul Atkinson with a 44 break and Karl Welsh.

Shotton Palms were never headed on their trip to Brandon and won in the decider. Dave Swindle put the Palms ahead but Kevin Sample levelled. John Armstrong, making a welcome return to league action, restored the visitors' lead only to see John Hall equalise. The Palms went to victory when Paul Hickman beat Graham Jackson in the decider.

Second Division leaders, Crowtrees A went down by the odd point at Spennymoor B. The home side had wins from Phil Wilson, Micky Anderson with a 32 break and Alan Clarke, whilst Sonny Hann and Steve Armstrong won for Crowtrees.

Coundon failed to take advantage of Crowtrees' defeat when they visited the much-improved Sacriston and went down by the odd point. Jeff Evans, Willy Nixon and Alan Richardson won for the home side with Frank Nicholson and Stuart Neil replying for Coundon.

Belmont pulled off a good home odd point win over Ferryhill A. Billy McGrath, Chris Morley and Michael Short won for Belmont with Bernie Jones and Keith Howe, with a 31 break on his debut replying, taking points for Ferryhill.

Leeholme A shot up into second place in the Third Division after they only dropped one point to their B team. Lee Todd was the lone winner for the B team, whilst Andrew Roe, Ray Gill, Gary Golightly and Barry Shaw with a 40 break who for the A team.

Crowtrees B took the first three points against the visiting Durham City with wins from David Taylor, Terry Gibson and David Lowery with a 42 break. The City fought back to take the last two frames through John Davies and Brian Dunn.

League leaders, Crook Olde Horse Shoe A went down in the decider at Crook Belle Vue but held on to their top spot because second placed, Crook Travellers Rest B had to postpone their match. The Shoe lead by four points with the travellers six points ahead of Belle Vue.

Crook Belle Vue had singles wins from John Warriner, Brian Wright and Ian Hodkinson whilst the Olde Horse Shoe A levelled with wins from Stephen Liddle, Johnny Mason and Brian Johnson. The home side went to victory when Pip Samson and Brian Wright beat Richard Walker and Brian Johnson in the doubles decider.

Crook Queen's Head A pulled off a good win in the Second Division at second placed Crook White Swan B. The singles were shared with Stephen Dawson, Kevin Carter and Stephen Murphy taking point for the Swan and Tommy Longstaffe, John Howarth and Phil Hall replying. In the deciding doubles, Stuart Miller and Stephen Dawson beat Neil Harker and Phil Hall to give the Queen's victory.
