Billingham youngsters have taken part in two legs of the Northumberland and Durham Juniors League, both with a depleted team. All members swam with great team spirit and doing themselves proud.

Team members for the first leg which took place a fortnight ago were:

Girls: Stephanie Blakeburn, Kate Williams, Emma Shepherd, Helen Dobson, Charlotte Cleasby, Harriet Goodman, Jennie Bullock, AliceCleasby, Lucy Hedley, Amy Howsden, Catherine Goodman, Catherine Fenby, Alice Sharp, Rosie Lawton, Helen Siberry.

Boys: Benjamin Raper, Joshua Trewin, Cole Henderson, Joseph Sibery, Gareth Allen, Glen Martin, Richard Marsden, Matthew Mawson, Joshua Penin and Jonathan Bullock.

Held at West Denton, six teams competed and points were awarded for each place gained. Nine-year-olds could only swim in relays, only a girls team competed gaining four points in the freestyle.

In the ten-year-olds, the girls gained maximum points in the 100m free, breast and fly and the relay medley. They accumulated 34 points. The boys produced maximum points in the relay freestyle accumulating 24 points.

Placings: 1st Richmond 188 points, 2nd Ashington 170, 3rd Peterlee 150, 4th Billingham, 5th Blyth, 6th Hebburn Metro.

The second leg took place last weekend at Tynemouth.

The nine-year-old girls gained four points in their freestyle relay and the ten-year-old girls produced maximum points in the 100m free, fly and breast also for the two relays the free and medley. Altogether accumulating a massive 35 points. The boys gained nine points.

The 11-year-old girls 17 points and the boys 13 points.

The 12 year old girls collated 11 points and the boys achieved 6 points in the 100m fly gaining 20 points in all, there was not a full team to compete in the relays.

The freestyle mixed relay produced 1 point and the Cannon 5 points.

Results: 1st Ashington 200 points, 2nd Richmond 193, 3rd Peterlee 166, 4th Billingham 111, 5th Blyth 104, 6th Hebburn Metro 59.
