A CRISIS has hit one of North Yorkshire's best known farming and rural communmity shows.

New officials are urgently needed to take over the reins of Rosedale Show, in the North York Moors National Park.

Ill health and family commitments have forced several people to step down following this year's show, which dates back to 1871 and is one of the oldest in North Yorkshire.

The show traditionally attracts 5,000 people from all parts of Britain.

Chairwoman Janet Dring said: "People even book their holidays to coincide with the show."

A Save Rosedale Show plea has now gone out to find a general secretary, treasurer and schedule and catalogue secretary.

"We are looking for people who live within easy travelling distance of Rosedale, and who have a keen interest in seeing the show survive," said Mrs Dring.

"Anyone who enjoys meeting people and has basic computer and typing skills would be ideal.

"Although it is hard work, it is rewarding to know that people not only from the Ryedale area, but from all parts of England and Wales visit the show because of its friendly reputation. Everyone would be extremely disappointed if it had to finish."

The show costs £12,000 to stage and prizes worth £2,700 are given out.

Anyone interested in helping is asked to contact Mrs Dring on (01751) 417101 or (01751) 417200.
